September 14th, 2009 · 3 Comments · Paige

for those who are aware of the kampala riots, this is an excerpt from an email i just wrote to my brother:
we are okay in kampala.  most of the rioting was in the city center (which we are very isolated from in mbuya) or along the roads as you enter into baganda from other regions [...]

ultimate in kampala update

January 11th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Phil

ask and you shall receive. here is some info for brooke who recently left a comment wondering about the ultimate scene here in kampala. things have been going strong, and in fact attendance was better this fall when we returned to uganda than when we left in may. we had needlessly worried about a fall-off [...]

odin goes up country

December 4th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Paige

odin crossed the equator yesterday and we blew it by not photographing the momentous occasion. some people wait decades before they can say they’ve been at the equator; it took odin 4 months. goes to show how commonplace it is for us to go back and forth, north to south, that i didn’t [...]

odin goes to the movies

December 1st, 2008 · 1 Comment · Phil

we decided that if there were ever any place where it would be OK to take a newborn to a movie theater, that would be here in kampala. sure enough, no one looked sideways when we walked in. odin did well. though you never realize how loud your kiddo’s cute little gurgles and grunts are [...]

November 27th, 2008 · 4 Comments · Phil

sunday was the fifth or sixth annual kampala marathon. the papers reported that there were 10000+ participants. only a tiny fraction run the whole marathon - most are in the 10k. i went for 10k two years ago, but have been a photographer last year and this. i posted this over at PPAD as well, [...]

odin’s a cow

November 23rd, 2008 · 2 Comments · Paige

the major holiday season is here. of course in uganda, unless you invest in celebrating, that holiday season can completely pass you by since there are no seasonal changes to indicate the passing of fall and the onset of cold and snow and winter. halloween, the now harbinger of retail holiday chaos, doesn’t [...]

Mood very bad :(
Depression Begins
the author was DDDepressionnn and the whois info said it originated in amsterdam. current sunrise/sunset info for amsterdam shows them with eight and half hours of sun, losing four minutes a day. here’s kampala uganda for comparison.

a backlog of odin photos from kampala uganda

November 19th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Phil

my mom requested more odin photos and admittedly it has been a while since we’ve had some updates. things here are moving along smoothly. paige is back to work pretty much full time, so i’m with odin mostly. his nanny started two weeks ago, but was in a boda accident so she hasn’t been here [...]

congs. OBAMA.

November 6th, 2008 · 3 Comments · Paige

we woke the boy up at 4:30 wednesday morning to watch history. it was a good way to start the day. we joined an all-night party of americans, ugandans and others in town to watch live CNN broadcast of the results. within minutes of obama’s victory being called we’d received several sms [...]
