I looked at my iTunes the other day to check my album count by artist. I’m getting a lot of single songs lately vs entire albums, so this doesn’t necessarily skew to my current tastes, except to what extent my tastes are timeless. Though now that I look at it, this would be a pretty accurate list of what I would take if stranded on a desert island.
3 albums: Andrew Bird, Ani DiFranco, Arcade Fire, Fugazi, George Winston, Jay-Z, Johnny Cash, Madonna, Radiohead, The Samples, Sigur Rós, Smashing Pumpkins
4 albums: Led Zeppelin, Pixies, a Tribe Called Quest
5 albums: Beastie Boys, Dave Matthews Band, Jane’s Addiction, Midnight Oil, R.E.M.
6 albums: Greg Brown
9 albums: U2

So while we’re on the subject of albums, here are my best complete albums of all time.
I fully recognize and endorse that a really good album can become the Greatest Album Ever due to autobiographical circumstances. Most of these have a pretty direct connection to high school, college, or ski racing.
Sugar - Copper Blue
Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet
Big Head Todd - Sister Sweetly
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
Midnight Oil - Diesel and Dust
Midnight Oil - Blue Sky Mine
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magic
George Winston - December
Greg Brown - In the Dark With You
John Digweed - Bedrock
Chicane - Behind the Sun
Pixies - Surfer Rosa
Pixies - Trompe le Monde
R.E.M - Murmur
Jane’s Addiction - Nothing’s Shocking
Jane’s Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual
Radiohead - The Bends
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
Rage Against the Machine
U2 - Joshua Tree
U2 - Achtung Baby
Pearl Jam - Ten
Alison Krauss & Union Station - So Long, So Wrong
Bob Marley - Legend (the vinyl that I grew up with is a little different than the CD, though. Also, best-of albums should maybe be DQ’d)
I’m sure I’m forgetting some…
Some honorable mentions that still need to stand the test of time for me:
Ryan Adams - Jacksonville City Nights
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Sigur Rós - Takk
A whole number of techo DJ mixes
