kampala - home in uganda

October 6th, 2008 · 3 Comments · Phil

the first ugandan we talked to was in the immigration line. there’s a foreigner line, an east african line, and a resident line. he looked at us in surprise asking if we were residents. we said yes, we’ve been here for two years. were we away on vacation? no, we went back to the states to have this little guy, now we’re back. and what is he called? he’s called odin. oh! are you norwegian?

i love it that we had to come back to uganda to find someone who not only immediately understood odin’s name, but also knew where it came from. it was a perfect first interaction. so we’re home. all our bags arrived, peter was there to pick us and had the car seat and the house keys, and now we’re home with the cats and the garden and the birds.

It’s a rainy fall day here in the northwoods. The trees are still vibrant with yellows to red. It was great to see you a few times over the unplugged weekend, and wonderful to meet Odin. Congrats on the big trip - we are thinking of you in Uganda and look forward to regular updates from Grandma!
