ultrasound x 2

February 15th, 2008

in december i was feeling some weirdness in my lower abdomen and it had gotten to the point that i was ready to talk to a doctor about it. paige had some abdominal interests of her own, so we decided to take a field trip over to international hospital kampala (ihk) to investigate.

upon arrival, i went to the internal doc and paige headed off to the midwife. if it were a movie, it would be framed something like this. camera focuses directly down the hallway. paige and phil walk away from the camera and symmetrically turn in to doors on opposite sides of the hallway. as doors close, they immediately open and paige and phil simultaneously emerge with yellow slips of paper in their hands. time-lapsey, sort of like a bugs bunny/elmer fudd or laurel and hardy indoor chase scene.

so we each had our order for an abdominal ultrasound. mine to figure out what the mystery discomfort was and for paige we knew (hoped) for something less mysterious. walking up to the ultrasound tech was funny. he gave us a pretty odd look, understandably, considering it probably wasn’t every day that a couple came in requesting matching his and hers ultrasounds.

my scan was pretty exciting. bladder infection, cysts and stones in both kidneys, and an enlarged liver (though that might have just been because i’m white and he is used to african livers). paige’s scan was even more exciting. the ultrasound tech showed us a white spot that he excitedly described as “a little human bean!” so we have since named it the bean, and it is due the first week of august.

we plan to come back to MN in july and stay for eight or so weeks afterwards before returning to uganda. we’re really excited! meanwhile, uno and ttaano are gradually getting used to the idea of having a new brother or sister.

That’s what I’m talking about! Paco Jr. needs a CUT onesie.

Oh, and congrats on the bladder infection, too. Never knew a dude that got one of those until now.
