when we moved here we decided that we would take one trip per month outside of kampala. we figured it could be so easy to live here for years and never leave the city because we’d fall into routines and such. we’ve stuck to that plan pretty well with some months filled-in with international trips. we’re coming on to a year in uganda and this is our trip history so far…
july 2006: month 1 in UG
august: mabira forest reserve, fort portal, kibale forest national park
september: paige visits phil in u.s. (nfld, mpls)
october: phil still in u.s.
november (thanksgiving): murchison falls national park
december (christmas): gorillas in rwanda, lake bunyonyi, lake mburo national park
january 2007: paige to u.s. (boulder, rapid city), stop-over in london
february: lake mburo, rafting the nile
march: phil to scandanavia (stockholm, oslo)
april (easter): queen elizabeth national park
may: murchison falls, lake mburo
june (anniversary): thailand
did we tell you that we’re going to thailand? leaving may 25 for two weeks. flying africa to asia is half the price of flying n. america to asia so we made the most of our geographic centrality. we’re going to learn how to cook thai food and how to scuba dive, and do other things yet to be determined. most likely elephant-riding, temple-visiting, hiking, picture-taking, 1st-anniversary-celebrating. i’m also in the midst of planning a safari in TZ / KE for september when my parents come to visit, phil’s been playing tour guide for betsy and david on their trip thru UG, and we’re going to be in the u.s. end of july. travel, travel, travel. we’re going to need a vacation after all of our vacation!
the coolest thing about it is that 1x per month we take a trip that for many qualifies as once-in-a-lifetime. we count ourselves as very, very lucky to be where we are doing what we’re doing.
