life is life no matter where you are
you'd think that moving to africa would be a whole new world, and it is on a certain level. there's new sights, new sounds, new people, new culture. but, really it's all the same. no matter where you are you need a place to live, a way to make money, friends to care about, hobbies to entertain yourself, food in your tummy. here, there, wherever, the basic needs don't change. i think that's what's most surprised me about africa...that it's not really different. life is life here, just like anywhere else.101paige 101africa

mmm... food in your tummy, indeed. it's cold here now, and we're having tator-tot casserole for dinner here at the york house. i bet that's a little different than what you've been eating in africa. :)
Hello,
My name is Debbie Johnson. I live in Woodbury, Minnesota, a suburb of St. Paul. I was googling an orphange that is sponsored by "New Hope for Africa" and I came across your blog. The reason I was googling it is because I lead a group of teenagers who are planning a benefit concert for this orphange in February. We have talked to Lydia who I believe is the daughter of Anet that you refer to in your blog.
Some of these teenagers have attended PeaceJams and recently went to one in Colorado where they met with 12 Nobel Prize winners including the Dali Lama and Desmond Tutu. They came home with the assignment to do a project and after conferring with the Woodbury Community Education group they settled on this Orpanage.
We are just in the very beginning stages of our planning and it isn't for sure yet that it will come together but right now it is looking very positive. If you have any interest in staying in contact with us and giving us information on the area and the needs of the orphanage, please reply back.
I notice you mention Minnesota so I thought maybe there would be a connection.
I haven't read much of your blog yet so am not really sure how long you have been in Uganda and what you are working on there.
Let me know if you are interested in keeping in touch with our students doing this project.
In Peace,
Debbie Johnson
Woodbury, MN
